Sweet Senorita Party: Mexican Paper Flowers

This isn't really a party photo, I just love it. But, it comes from the blog Sew Sweet Stitches, which you need to visit just because it is so beautiful, but also to see THIS post which is are best instructions there could possibly be for how to make pom poms and simple paper flowers.

When my friends and I hosted a Senorita Party, six of us gathered at my house the week before with piles of tissue paper. We had the best time making flowers until late into the night. I could barely move in my apartment when we were finished. We had car loads of flowers. It was beautiful! We had the party at our church and the walls were brick, so there wasn't any problem putting the flowers up with tape.

When I have done this other times, like for Cinco de Mayo, I have used colorful serapes as tablecloths. If you have a large space that swallows color. This is a great theme to go with.

Sweet Senorita Party: Mexican Peasant Dress

I love the embroidery on the vintage Mexican Peasant items from Aida Coronado on Etsy. They are so many beautiful details. But, they can be a little pricey for party wear, so you can always search Mexican Peasant Dress on Ebay and there are some used and vintage items that are priced as low as $7. When my friends Jessica, Molly & I hosted a similar party, we were able to borrow our dresses. Don't just wear it either. These are begging to be accessorized. Silver is beautiful if you have some, but look at all the fun jewelry Aida has used to make these outfits sing in her shop. A great oblong scarf makes a pretty belt. I always like over-the-top, but this is an occasion for splashing color.

Sweet Senorita Party: The Music

Cielito Lindo is an old Spanish song, very old, but it has been reborn with the magical gift of Marta Gomez... this old love song has never been more beautiful. LISTEN... The whole CD is lovely actually. Here are some other songs popularized by Mariachi bands that you might look for a version that suits and make a party cd.

Sweet Senorita Party: The Treats...

Chips & Salsa, taquitos, quesadillas, Mexican Wedding Cookies and the best recipe ever for Chicken Enchiladas... make and easy menu.

You can pick up street tacos and great salsa just at Costco. In Utah some of the local groceries carry these other fun items, but if you can't find them look up a Mexican Market. There are good ones in Logan, SLC and Ogden. If you want to work just a little harder... the cookbook Mexican Everyday has some great recipes.
These Jarritos are really, really good and made with old fashioned sugar. Mmm. The lime is my favorite. On ice in one of THESE my favorite galvanized tubs.. which you can DIY, but I've have and I didn't enjoy it. That decoupage gets pretty messing and I tear my papers.

Stopping now. I'm getting really hungry.

Wonderland Wedding: The Party Favors...

The little flower girls might enjoy a little white rabbit... This one is found at Amazon.com

These miniature little lollis would be a fun party favor. They cost $5 for 65 of them through Oriental Trading Company. But, with Alice, there are so many ideas you could use. Small packs of cards, a little clock, a black headband/hair ribbon, a tea cup filled with little shortbread cookies.

Wonderland Wedding: Cucumber Sandwiches &...

I looked at hundres of petit fours, but these are they if you ask me! I love the little raspberry on top which makes that touch of red that find everywhere in Wonderland.

Photos and recipe found at userealbutter.com

These Pepperidge Farm cookies would be easy and pretty for a tea party.

Make giant flowers.. the bigger, the better! Instructions from FamilyFun.go.com

How about a giant chess board. We found some 10' X 10' .. but they may come even larger and could be used as a floor for dancing!

Independence Day Wedding: Something Old...

No matter what your coloring, there is a shade of red lipstick for you! There's no time like a patriotic wedding to wear it! You can give everyone a big smooch on the cheek!

I love this photo of the bride's maid dress found on Bridology and her suggestion to serve classic coke. It's red and white and very American. The small 6oz. bottles on ice in big tubs would be really cute.

I recently painted a custom wedding cake topper for a bride from Reykjavik, Iceland. She was planning to wear red wedding shoes under a tea length dress. I LOVE that idea. These beautiful cherry shoes from Etsy.. would be perfect for something old.

Independence Day Wedding: The Groom

If you are having a wedding, or trying to dress men for any occasion, you ought to know about The Tie Bar. They have the most beautiful ties, pockets squares and cufflinks for VERY resonable prices and I promise you won't be skimping on quality. You'll be surprised when items arrived carefully packaged and beautifully constructed. Cufflinks are $20 a pair. Pocket squares (which I LOVE) are between $5 and $8. Ties are around &15. Patterns often come in skinny or extra long so there is something to suit everyone.

Independence Day Wedding: The CAKE

I looked at a lot of red, white & blue cakes for this post, but it wasn't even close. This one from Wedding & Cakes was my very favorite! If you click over, they have several other very pretty cake...

Independence Day Wedding: The Flowers &...

Red, white and blue wedding flowers are really easy. You can have a bouqet of red roses, better yet make them the giant red Abraham Lincoln red rose. I grow two of these in my garden and while the big bloom is gone by July, there are still enough to make a beautiful bouqet. Red zinnias would be beautiful. You may have to start them early in the year to have them by now DIY, but they would be pretty too. These red anemone's would be perfect I think. I love simple bouqets of just one flower and anyone can make them. These flowers are from bouquetweddingflower.com

I loved the idea of these flowers from a wedding on French's Point in Maine, although I would choose a French blue bucket to contrast with the red ribbon and the flowers and having a color that is just a bit off traditional helps to make it a litte more wedding if that makes sense.

I loved the idea of this red truck which was part of a real wedding that you can see on Ruffled.

Independence Day Wedding: The Food

These fried Apple Pies seem like a great twist on an old classic at FineCooking.com

My favorite! (Image from Park&MarketNorthHills)

Make sure your guests don't miss out on grilling burgers.
This delicious recipe is from Delish.com which features 100 recipes for July 4th.

SheKnows.com has a whole list of beautiful red, white & blue desserts. Everyone loves fresh fruit and this is so beautiful. You could also just have small white dishes of raspberries or strawberries and blueberries.

The Butterfly Wedding: Inspiration...

The Butterfly Wedding: Inspiration...

In 2008, Princess Beatrice wore this Philip Treacy hat to her cousin's wedding. I never got over this hat. I would forgo all the jewels in the Royal chest to wear this hat. It is wondrous. I still love it and the entire butterfly wedding was dreamt up with this hat in mind.

Butterfly Wedding: The Men...

Don't leave them men out. It's amazing what people make out there. This tie by Rabbitstop is absolutely perfect.

And these cufflinks by Tarcinale would be more than part of the wedding attire, but a great keepsake from the day.

The Butterfly Wedding: THe PIE?

This is the butterfly wedding and it's a bit different.. so don't just serve cake.. serve pie. This pie is one of my favorites and I try to make some every year when the peaches are on...

Barbara's Fresh Peach Pie...
FRESH PEACH PIE Crust:
1 heaping cup of flour
1/2 c. butter or margarine
3 1/2 T. powdered sugar
Blend together and press into 9-10 inch pie pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Cool.
Filling:
3/4 c. sugar
4 T. cornstarch
3 T. light corn syrup
5 T. peach or lemon jello powder
1 drop orange food coloring
2 T. lemon juice + enough water to make
1 1/2 c. of liquid
4-6 peeled and sliced peaches (fresh)Mix sugar and cornstarch, add corn syrup and liquid.
Bring to a boil and cook 6 minutes, stirring constantly. Add jello powder and food coloring. Stir to dissolve jello crystals. Cool mixture. Stir in sliced peaches and pour into pie crust. Allow to set in refrigerator 2-3 hours.
And, if you want to make it extra special...
If you save out about 1/3 c. of the syrup before adding the peaches, you can mix the remaining syrup with 1/3 c. evaporated milk and pour it over the pie after the filling has completely set.

The Butterfly Wedding: The Cake

This amazing cake appeared on the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings. Breathtaking.

The Butterfly Wedding: The Flowers...

Bollea has some beautiful photos HERE of what would make the perfect flowers for the Butterfly Wedding... Then there could be large arrangements of blue delphiniums and smaller arrangements of some of these other flowers.

The Butterfly Wedding: The Treats

I LOVE candy. Candy comes in a rainbow of colors and adds a smile to any party for not too much coin. You can wrap this stuff up in cellophane with ribbons as a gift bag for bride's maids. You can serve it with finger foods. There are vintage tins, polka dot buckets and many other fun ideas for containers to serve it out of. Peach Nehi and a lot of other fun nostalgia at HOMETOWN FAVORITES...
